Week of 5/12: Sun Safety
Q. Doug, summer is right around the corner and thus the start of the sun-bathing season! What sun
safety tips do have for this year?
Doug: Yes, summer is almost upon us and everyone wants to enjoy the beautiful benefits of a "sunny summer".
We need to remember, however, that the UVA and UVB rays of the sun may contribute to the development of skin cancers,
premature skin aging, and other skin damage! Sun safety would include minimizing sun exposure, wearing
protective clothing and sunglasses, and applying appropriate sunscreen.
Q. Speaking of sunscreens...what should a person know?
Doug: Choose a sunscreen with at least on SPF of 15 or higher. Apply liberally and often...a one ounce shot
glass size amount will cover a 150-pound adult. Apply 15-30 minutes prior to sun exposure and reapply after
swimming or excessive sweating! Remember, your friendly, knowledgeable Cub pharmacist can help you select the
right sunscreen for you. Also you can go to this stations website for more information!
